By Ethan Hauck

best boxing gyms in Southern California

If you want to take up boxing, but are feeling apprehensive about going to a boxing gym, don’t be! Just find a suitable one near you, head over and join a class. To provide you with a list of places to train to choose from, we’ve featured 10 of the best boxing gyms in Southern California in this post.

1. Undefeated Boxing

Undefeated Boxing is the first of two incredibly well-known gyms in Upland, California. Undefeated is the accurately named result of undefeated Southern California State Champion Daniel Hernandez. Undefeated Boxing is open with highly varied hours based on their class and one-on-one session schedules, found here.

Over the past six years, Undefeated Boxing has expanded to create a welcoming and highly competitive boxing environment. Whether you’re there to start fighting competitively or you just want to get in shape and learn some basic self-defense, Undefeated is an excellent resource to begin your boxing journey.

2. Warzone Boxing Club

Warzone Boxing Club is another of Upland’s most locally beloved boxing gyms. They (and our previous entry) claim to be “Upland’s #1 boxing club;” while we can’t confirm one over the other, Warzone provides an incredibly varied selection of courses for adults and youths alike. Warzone Boxing Club is open 6-9:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, closed on Fridays, and open from 10-1 p.m. on weekends.

Warzone is a local SoCal boxing gym. With locations in Upland and Rialto, they offer Southern Californians an excellent opportunity to get in shape in a community-centered boxing gym – a rare commodity in the always-going modern world. Whether your kid or teen wants to build a bit of confidence or you want to learn the sport, Warzone has a coach simply waiting to guide you along the path.

3. Prevail Boxing

Prevail Boxing is the first of five Los Angeles-based boxing gyms. From sparring and competitive training to fitness and confidence, Prevail helps build everything you need to live a happy, healthy life in Southern California. Prevail is open from 5:30-7 p.m. Sunday-Friday and from 6:30-1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Prevail’s class-guided approach ensures each fighter in their gym gets proper instruction on fitness and technique before just… throwing them in the ring. While this certainly isn’t the old-fashioned approach of “fight and figure it out,” it ensures that their clientele is entirely comfortable with each sparring bout and that they’re prepared to learn the right way.

4. TG Boxing Gym

TG Boxing Gym is the second on our mini-list of Los Angeles-based boxing gyms. They are a genuinely old-school gym focused on the basic tenets of boxing – endurance, strength, technique, and speed. TG Boxing Gym is open from 9-12 and 3-8 p.m. Monday-Friday and closed on weekends.

TG Boxing Gym offers a combination of instructional sparring and actual competitive bouts. They accept prospective fighters of all ages; whether it’s a young kid that’s just getting started, a fighting-fit teen, or an older newcomer, TG Boxing ensures everyone is comfortable (and safe) when learning the sport of boxing.

5. Tiger Boxing Gym

Next on our list is yet another Los Angeles-based boxing gym – Tiger Boxing Gym. Tiger focuses on providing “hard and honest training” for people of all walks of life, ages, and experience levels. There’s an entry level for everyone, from women’s and men’s classes to youth and teen courses. Tiger Boxing Gym is open 8-10 p.m. seven days a week.

Tiger offers a place for people of all experience levels to grow their strength and cardio conditioning while learning the basics of self-defense and discipline. While their instructors will never go easy on you, it’s calculated, ensuring you get the most from each session. This makes Tiger Boxing an excellent place to begin your journey to fitness in a safe and competitive boxing gym.

6. Badlands Boxing

Badlands Boxing is another Los Angeles boxing gym, though they’re a bit different from others on this list. Where many gyms aim to provide group classes, Badlands focuses on individual improvement. Founded by two-time world title challenger Gabriel Rosado, this gym has an attitude that’s backed by technique. They’re open for a minimal period, based on private, pre-scheduled classes.

Ultimately, Badlands is one of the best choices on this list for private classes where you can learn and grow at your own pace, unhindered by a group environment. This makes Badlands an excellent option for those who are limited on time (you can pick your times) or who prefer non-group learning – so reach out and see what Badlands can do to get you in fighting shape.

7. Ricky’s Boxing Gym

Ricky’s Boxing Gym is the last of our Los Angeles boxing gyms. They offer instruction from founder and owner Ricky Quiles, a four-time championship fighter. With over 100 clients from all over the greater Los Angeles area, it’s clear that his over twenty years of experience have paid off quite well. Ricky’s Boxing Gym is open from 8-7 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 8-3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Ricky’s Boxing Gym is a classic open gym with an old-school feel. They provide an excellent environment to grow and learn in a private environment that’s focused entirely on the sport of boxing. While this makes Ricky’s a bit more… rough and tumble than others on the list, it also earns them a spot for the truly competitive readers out there who need that edge to learn.

8. Brickhouse Boxing Club

Brickhouse Boxing Club is the only Hollywood-based boxing gym on this list. They’re a self-described “premier boutique gym” designed with limited class sizes and private training in mind. While they do emphasize technique, they also focus on fitness, making them a fantastic all-around gym. Brickhouse Boxing Club is open from 6-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, from 7-2 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 7-1 p.m. on Sundays.

As mentioned above, Brickhouse is less about fighting as it is about fitness. They incorporate boxing into a strict fitness regimen, ensuring each client is fighting fit and confident in their abilities. Additionally, Brickhouse’s focus on private instruction makes them (yet another) option for those who need a bit more of a personal style of teaching.

9. Gaucho Boxing Gym

Gaucho Boxing Gym is one of Pasadena’s longest-standing boxing gyms, and for good reason. Founded in 2006, they’ve built a loyal following over the past fifteen years of adult men and women, regardless of their experience or skill levels. Gaucho Boxing Gym is open only by appointment (or class schedule), so reach out to learn more.

The owner of Gaucho, Javier Diez, is one of the ten highest-ranked kickboxing fighters in the world, boasting six world championships and sparring experience with Olympic silver medalist boxers. This ensures that he (and his staff) will provide a truly world-class experience, regardless of your comfort with the sport.

10. Mayweather Boxing + Fitness

Located in Torrance, California, is a gym of legendary proportions – Mayweather Boxing + Fitness. If the name Mayweather rings a bell – you’re thinking of the right man. That’s right! Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has his own chain of boxing gyms (which we’ve covered before in Michigan) – and they’re top-notch. Mayweather Boxing + Fitness is open from 5-8 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 8-2 p.m. on weekends.

The primary focus of Mayweather Boxing + Fitness is pretty straightforward. They’re a boxing gym that uses High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) in tandem with classic boxing to build muscle, endurance, and confidence – all at once! Regardless of your experience with pugilism, desire to compete, or belief in your ability, Mayweather has the perfect coach to get you throwing hands in no time.
